ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Thursday met ambassadors of China, Saudi Arabia and Iran and discussed with them the prevailing situation post-US drone strike that killed Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour.
In separate meetings with the three ambassadors, Aizaz briefed them about the death of Mansour, saying that the latest drone strike had totally changed the dynamics of quadrilateral Afghan peace talks. He also said that the Mansour’s death might affect Afghan peace process.
The meeting comes few days after a US drone strike blew up a vehicle near Balochistan. According to the US and Afghan sources, one of the dead bodies was of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, who had been leader of the militant group since July 2015.
Earlier on Thursday, Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz had said, “According to our information Mullah Akhtar was not against the peace process.” He had also termed the drone strike a “severe violation of the United Nations Charter”.
