Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will oppose the canal project before the upcoming budget. He emphasized that neither Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari nor President Asif Ali Zardari would allow this project to proceed, deeming it detrimental to Sindh.
During a media briefing in Bhan Saeedabad, Shah stated that a survey on the canal project was conducted, but all work has been halted. He reassured the public that the Sindh government would not prevent anyone from protesting against the canal issue. He acknowledged the right to protest as a legitimate expression of public concern.
Previously, on April 4 in Sukkur, Shah addressed media claims stating that propaganda against the PPP regarding the canal project was unfounded. He reiterated that any water project must have consensus among the provinces, as mandated by the constitution. This shows the party’s firm stance against the canal initiative.
Furthermore, Shah clarified that recent claims about presidential approval for the project were misleading. He confirmed that the President had publicly stated he cannot support these projects in Parliament. He stated that no summary regarding this matter has been signed by the President, reinforcing the party’s commitment to stop the canal project.
